This waiting list is for Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher rental housing assistance in Johnson City, Tennessee.The Johnson City Housing Authority (JCHA) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from November 7, 2022, until further notice. This waiting list was last open in April, 2019. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.To apply while the waiting list was open, applicants were required to complete the online application.This waiting list had the following preferences:Displaced — individuals or families displaced by government action, or whose dwelling has been destroyed by disaster (i.e., fire). Elderly and people with disabilities, working families and students Elderly family is defined as a family whose head or spouse or whose sole member is at least 62 years of age, or disabled, or handicapped and may include two or more elderly, disabled, or handicapped persons living together, or one or more such persons living with another person who is determined to be essential to his or her care and well being. Working families- Any eligible head or spouse that is employed and working no less than 20 hours per week (regardless of the amount of income) and the income is countable under HUD’s definition of “annual income,” qualifies for the working preference. Also, applicants whose head, spouse, or sole member is age 62 or older or is receiving social security disability, supplemental security income disability benefits, or any other payments based on the individual’s inability to work. This preference is also extended to those who are in or have recently completed educational or training programs designed to prepare people for the job market. Victims of domestic violence.
