About this property

Public HousingThe Flint Housing Commission owns 1248 Conventional Public Housing Units, which includes 133 scattered sites throughout the City of Flint. Public Housing is a subsidized housing program funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) which allows seniors, disabled persons and families to live independently in affordable housing. The Flint Housing Commission uses income limits developed by HUD, which lower income limits are at 80% and very low income limits are at 50% of the median income for the area. Rent is based on 30% of all income received, which some income may be excluded. Our Public Housing Program offers a variety of Resident Services and we aim to assist and encourage families and residents to become self-sufficient. How Do I Apply? If you are interested in applying for public housing, you may fill out a paper application at the Flint Housing Administration Building located at 3820 Richfield Road, Flint, MI 48506 Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.Rental Assistance: The Flint Housing Commission administers approximately 700 Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. These Vouchers allow a participant to live in a privately owned rental unit with the Flint Housing Commission subsidizing their rent for the difference between 30% of their income and the monthly rent charged. Our jurisdiction includes all of Genesee County. You will pay that landlord your calculated rent and the Flint Housing Commission will pay your landlord the difference between your rent and the actual cost of the dwelling unit. The landlord is responsible for the upkeep of your dwelling unit and the site where you live as dictated in the lease agreement. With a Voucher you may choose a unit with a monthly rent higher than the guidelines set by the Department of HUD but you must pay the difference between the monthly rent and the subsidy amount plus any utilities for which you are responsible.
